UM Graduate School Training Programme – Open science; multidisciplinary session

Course Description

In this interactive session, we will discuss the concepts of open science and open access, and you will learn more about research data management. Differences and similarities concerning these two topics within different disciplines will be discussed using several use cases.

Learning goals 
• The students will learn about the Open Science philosophy
• The students will learn about the options for Open Access publishing
• The students will learn more about the FAIR data principles
• The students will discuss critical aspects of the Research Data Management plan between different disciplines

Target group
This course is mandatory for all internal and external PhD students of Maastricht University who started their PhD on or after November 1st 2021. For all other interested students participation to this course is on a voluntary basis. Completion of this UM Graduate School course does not provide exemption from any faculty-related course!

Prerequisites
To participate in this multidisciplinary session, the online modules Open Science Intro; Open Access Introduction; Open Access Publishing; Research Data Management need to be completed. These modules are accessible through the Graduate School portal at: https://graduateschool.library.maastrichtuniversity.nl/.

!Important!: Please bring your answers from the online module to the multidisciplinary session.

Registration: After completing the online modules associated with Research Ethics and Integrity, you can subscribe to one of the multidisciplinary sessions mentioned below.

The course is offered in an online setting as well as an on-site setting. Please register for just one of these sessions. In the online setting priority will be given to external PhD students. Please note that on-site sessions can always be converted to an online setting due to unforeseen circumstances. You can cancel your registration up to 5 days before the start of the session. If you fail to do so we will notify your Graduate School.

Practical information: Considering the interdisciplinary nature of the sessions there is only a limited number of seats available per faculty. Fully booked seats for a specific faculty will be displayed as N/A. So register soon!

The session may be cancelled if there are less than 8 subscriptions. We strive to notify you about cancellations a few days in advance.

Location of the on site sessions: The Makerspace is located on the first floor of the Inner City Library (route 160, Room D1.228/1.232). If you are an external PhD student who does not own a UM card please send us an email at gs-skills-support-ub@maastrichtuniversity.nl. We will then make sure you will get access to the library.
